History:
The building has gone through many name changes and business operations over the years. It was constructed in 1911 and named the Argo Hotel. In 1923 it was called the New Meridian Hotel. Later in 1935, owned and operated by Dr. Joseph and Mary (Maria) Wiebelhaus, it became The New Meridian Sanatorium, and provided medical doctors, chiropractors, offered special treatments and provided room and board for patients. In 1962 Keith Everton purchased the building and sold it that same year to Dr. Charles Swift who used it for his practice. In 1994, the building was purchased and renovated by its current owner Sandra (Bogner) McDonald, who renamed the building the Argo Hotel. The Argo Hotel now operates as a bed and breakfast and as a steakhouse.
Is the Argo Hotel haunted? It has been said that a young girl once died in the basement of the building and people have claimed to have seen her ghost. It is also rumored, that at one point during remodeling a section of the lounge, a baby's skeleton was found behind one of the walls. Some say that they have heard a mother crying for her baby. Others have claimed that they have heard moaning coming from certain rooms, and that they have seen pictures hanging on the walls of the hotel move on their own.
