PRISM Paranormal Investigations

BALL CEMETERY

Springfield, NE

Ongoing Investigation

Last investigation: April 3, 2005
Next investigation: TBD

Location:
20999 S. 176th St.
Springfield, NE 68059

History:

The Ball Cemetery began as a family cemetery and its oldest grave marker is dated 1869. Over the years, the cemetery grew to include individuals such as William "Rattlesnake Pete" Liddiard, a United States Marshal and implement dealer, who left his home of Springfield, Nebraska to join up with William “Buffalo Bill” Cody. He had a large handle bar mustache and became known as one of the fastest “on the draw” of all the U.S. Marshals. When he later died on the West coast, his body was brought back to Ball Cemetery for burial.

Various apparitions have been seen at Ball Cemetery. The ghost of a tall, male figure has been seen walking around the cemetery after dark. This ghostly apparition is known to have a rather bad temper, and there have even been reports of phantom, physical attacks dealt to some of the people who dare to visit this cemetery late at night. Other visitors have found unexplainable bruises on their arms and legs after entering the cemetery. Could this be the work of Rattlesnake Pete?

Another spirit roaming this cemetery by night is thought to be Mary Mumford, one of Ball Cemetery’s interred residents. Visitors have reported hearing the faint voice of a woman emanating from somewhere in the cemetery and some have even felt their clothing being tugged, followed by a woman's laughter.

More strange happenings at Ball Cemetery include those who say they have witnessed headstones tipping over and then rising back up on their own, and strange ectoplasm mists appearing in photographs taken among the gravesites.

Visitors beware! Ball Cemetery is guarded by its next door neighbors, who won't think twice about brandishing a shotgun if they catch you hanging out at this cemetery in the middle of the night.

Jim W. e-mailed this wonderful photo to us. It shows what appears to be ectoplasmic mist coming out of one of the graves located in the cemetery.
There is also an orb to the right of the mist.

Adam M. shared this photo with us of a very interesting light anomaly captured by one of the gravestones in Ball Cemetery. The large white section on the left side of the photograph is a large orb caught in motion.

On 4/3/05, PRISM investigators David Rodriguez and Dan Christianson visited Ball cemetery. The cemetery gates were closed this night, so both investigators had to take their photos, video, and EMF readings from the outside of the fence which lines the cemetery.
No unusual EMF readings were recorded.

Video Evidence:

4/3/05 @ 8:11:35 pm: PRISM lead investigator Dan Christianson caught this flashing light anomaly on video at the Ball Cemetery. The flashing light anomaly can be seen on the top left side of the video clip. We are unsure as to what this flashing light could be. At the same exact time the light anomaly is caught on video, an EVP is also captured. We also added the EVP to our 'Audio Evidence' section which can be found below.

- Video Clip #1 (Video File, 1MB)

The video was shot on a Sony TRV video camera using NightShot. The camera was set on the cemetery fence facing directly into the cemetery with a tree in the shot. As a side note ...there are no fireflies this time of the year in Nebraska. Also, note that our camera flashes were going off during the filming of the video clip.

Audio Evidence:

(Best listened to through headphones)

Note: Not everyone hears the same things
being said while listening to an EVP.
Let your own ears be the judge!

EVP - CLASS C

This recording was ripped from the video we caught of a flashing light anomaly seen at the Ball Cemetery (the video can be seen in our 'Video Evidence' section above.) The EVP occured during the exact moment that the flashing lights appeared. What is being said in this EVP is unknown.

- EVP #1 (Original Stream)
- EVP #1 (Looped 3 times w/ noise reduction added)

- EVP #1 (2nd part of EVP - loop 3 times w/ n.r. added & slowed 35%)

This EVP was recorded by PRISM investigator Dan Christianson on 4/3/05 on a Sony TRV video camera. In some of the clips, the EVP was "cleaned up" with noise reduction and looped by David Rodriguez using Adobe Audition software.
